Math and Nature

This I made this fall (2012) for my large format digital printing class. There were 4 themes for us to pick and I chose nature.

I love the thought of mathematical formulas seen in nature! So, for my project I combined the Golden Ratio and empirical data with items from nature. For me, I find it interesting that mathematical formulas appear in nature. I was told in critique that this also plays on the idea that humans always try to explain their surroundings in any way possible, and that even mathematical formulas that are seen in nature probably don't even exist. I was happy that this had different interpretations like that. THOUGHT PROVOKING!!!

I tried to find alot of plants that I thought represented certain formulas. I added a second layer of empirical date to represent the idea of confusion, and to make the viewer feel disconnected with the information that is on the image.

OMG I hope that makes any since. I put a lot of thought into this one and I just hope my message comes across.

The physical print is approx. 24in X 38.672.

Its so lovely to see in person, but I don't have a photo just yet. I'll update with one soon.
